THE DANCER AND THE DIPLOMAT

BIOGRAPHY

Three years full of surreal adventures, successfully at a frenetic rhythm in Los Angeles, California

Chapter 11. Because of the tequila, I premiere "Flamenco Sensual" presented by the Consul of Spain.

My mother had to return to Spain, and we went to dinner at Windows, a restaurant on the top floor of a down town building that, as its name suggests, only had windows that reached the ground and that occupied the entire top floor, with spectacular views of the entire city.

The owner was Mexican and he knew Paul, so he put us at the best table and with a bottle of the best welcome tequila that was the culprit of the final outcome.

My mother took her shots as a teenager in Spain, hitting the table while she enjoyed watching the owner suffer in case she broke it, and who informed her that even if it had the color of water, it was tequila!

It didn't take long for the couple at the next table to join in the celebration. Yolanda was the owner of a very exclusive beauty center who was fascinated with my skin and while the owner invited us to visit the convention room, she asked me to be her model for the launch of a new treatment.

When I saw the entire city illuminated from the 50th floor, I looked at my mother, who was surely seeing a field of "blue agave" because of how big the room was. I approached the owner, Paul, my bodyguard, was already by my side, and I announced aloud: I am going to present my first production here, it will be my first show, we will set up a stage and I will dance to the city of Los Angeles. We will give a cocktail and invite all the Spanish entities.

The owner continued to suffer, this time for his crystals that needed a special insurance for the event and that of course Paul would already be doing numbers with a minimum of 5 digits.

Before we left Windows, my mother and I went to the toilet, never before in our lives we had suffered from racism. My mother was retouching her makeup sitting in a beautiful velvet chair, when a group of 4 African-American women cornered her and threatened that either she would remove her shitty white ass from the chair or they were going to slash her milk face. I was in the bathroom and when I came out and saw my mother's scared face who lost her voice, I slammed the door and told them that I was the owner of the restaurant and that the police were already on their way and that never again they would set foot in that place again. I was very sorry, because I had many African American students and one of them, Bertha, was the one who gave me the first opportunity as a teacher in LA.

But that incident did not stop us from taking the penultimate shot of the best tequila to forget.

After ten months of eight hours of intensive flamenco classes a week, my students already had a very high level and I chose the best 5 as a corps de ballet, each one of different nationality. I designed all the suits, I bought the fabrics that my dressmaker Elena, Paul's mother, sewed. Eight live musicians would play that night; The guitarist Gino, who passed away and I will never forget, a flamenco singer, a violinist, a percussionist, and the Ziroq group made up of 4 musicians. Three video cameras, a filmmaker, an editor, two make-up artists, a hairdresser and all my professionalism is why Mr. Jose Luis Dicenta Ballester did not hesitate to put his name on the invitations and bureaucratically help me to present “Flamenco Sensual”.

—What the Madrid artist Esther Ponce, of whom I am very proud as Consul of Spain, has achieved tonight is incredible! In just a few months after arriving in Los Angeles with nothing, she has taught and prepared 5 women of different nationalities to dance flamenco, she has brought them up next to her on stage with humility and showing her great professionalism ...

Afterwards, the Director of the Tourism Office, the Director of Culture, etc., came up to give his speech. All the guests were fascinated with the show and with the place. At the events given by Spanish institutions, there is usually ham, cheese, potato omelette, wine and beer. That was a glamorous night, they ate gourmet canapes and drank champagne like there was no tomorrow. I settled in their hearts for flamenco art and also for their stomach.

The video for “Flamenco Sensual” was broadcast during the Hispanic Day party that was held in Beverly Hills at the Lladró porcelain store and was in the libraries and auditorium of several California universities representing our culture.

DON'T MISS CHAPTER 12!

"EnRique bumbury takes me up on the nightstand at dawn to dance for him"

Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys she calls friends
How…
Esther Ponce's experimental Flamenco is ready for the Valencian Director of Tourism to meet

It is very gratifying to have an idea like the experimental Flamenco in Valencia, carry it out and have managed to attract more than 20 foreign clients to Valencia in a short time and without marketing, who have passed through the Flamenco Art Center, and who have not only They learned a lot if not they have returned to their country with a better concept of Valencia.

His experience and approach to flamenco led by Esther Ponce will make you return without hesitation to the city of Turia.

Esther Ponce not only surrounds them with her passion and charisma from the first moment, her professionalism and a very long journey through different countries of the world where she has lived for long periods, she makes them fall in love.

You just have to read the dedications of all the foreigners who write in their precious notebook created for them and that are already adding more and more.

«They also buy semi-professional shoes and a skirt to study with me.» That’s already the best! –
~ Esther Ponce

The foreigner is used to teaching flamenco very quickly and without discipline, anything goes, any shoe, any skirt, hanging out even parodying and even ridiculing flamenco.

With me if they want to study two private hours which is the minimum, they are given the option of buying or renting the shoes and none of them have thought twice about it to this day.

«Being a polyglot, doors just open up to me» –
~ Esther Ponce

Definitely the Experimental Flamenco of Esther Ponce has an Angel!

From England, without a doubt the most special Experimental Flamenco we have had at the Flamenco Art Center in these two and a half years.

The Esther Ponce Stylized Flamenco Art Center has been open for two and a half years. El Ángel Every August 28, for Esther’s birthday, a new foreign student gives her a gift and the flamenco toast intensifies.

«The students do not want to miss the opportunity to study with me. When they start to study my technique they are hooked at the first second. Those who play sports and take care of themselves immediately identify with my stretching and feel safer for the rest of the class and those who don’t appreciate it and will surely start practicing it and taking care of themselves forever »
~ Esther Ponce

This year Esther thought that her Angel would be very busy due to the current pandemic situation and also that it would be a coincidence that another year happened.

But to Esther’s surprise it was like that and without doubt the most special flamenco toast for England.

«Discipline is my hallmark and not even the Covid has stopped us» «I have never doubted it and I will only teach classes with a mask»
~ Esther Ponce

After the experience of teaching classes with a mask? A private flamenco class for two hours without stopping, does Esther remember that when she and the student went out into the street they breathed for two seconds as if there were no tomorrow?According to Esther’s recent experience, with the mask you cannot see the total expression of the student, but the eyes also speak and flamenco is also expressed with the body.

With all the safety measures, the student disinfected her shoes, put hydroalcoholic gel on her hands, a temperature control was performed with a non-contact forehead thermometer and the student did not remove her mask during the two hours, only in the changing room that she only used to drink water.

“Now I can present my Experimental Flamenco to the director of Tourism of Valencia and let him roll with the little ham :)”
