XANA

XANA, a true story…

…But XANA was different from her 3 sisters, since the day she was born in the Nalón estuary while her mother washed, she was already blessed to foresee the future throughout her life and save lives…

“XANA has a premonition at 3 in the morning, and she saves her granddaughter by telling Elvira to urgently go to the hospital that her daughter was dying. “

After 34 years of Francoism and already in its last stage, in 1967, Madrid was going through a prodigious moment and important inaugurations. The students were in revolt against the regime and the closure of the Faculty of Political Science was a big mistake. There the concert of the year was mounted with huge banners that said; People's Democracy! surrounded by 6,000 students covered in plumes of cigarette smoke…

XANA and Colonel D. Emilio Ponce returned to Valencia and Elvira stayed in the flat. XANA was happy that her daughter was getting married and having children and avoiding tours and concerts... a very young woman alone with her "manager" Blanca María, also a woman, was not well seen...
La Voz de Naranja had lived, felt and enjoyed since she was 7 years old, the honey’s of success and she was ready to live another chapter in her life, which had already been written by her grandmother.
Elvira was so in love with her Paul Newman that she didn't miss traveling and acting.
She quickly invited a friend from the Film School to live with her, her house was very big and she was afraid to be alone. Meanwhile, her Angel in love with her was about to return from his long trip through Europe.
Her close friend and composer Esther Gloria Prieto, whom she had met on TV Española, also moved a few days to compose a totally yeyé song, where Elvira put on a whole show every time she sang it; —Brat, Brat, brat, dad calls me, brat mom calls me … you're not old enough to love, you're old enough to study. I feel like crying, I feel like screaming, I think I'm going to get sick! … While her friend, the actress Rosa de Alba, who was already involved in the world of politics, drank the bottles of Anís.

Esther Gloria Prieto, daughter of the Galician painter and sculptor Mr Julio Prieto Nespereira, who at that time was triumphing internationally, was the supervisor of all the ballets broadcast on Spanish TV and had a strong and overwhelming personality. She was a girl who lost her mother the same day she was born and she grew up with her father and her aunt Gloria, who helped him when the artist was away. She was a spoiled girl because fate wanted it that way and who greatly admired her close friend Elvira Ponce. Mr. Julio adored Elvira and every weekend, on Christmas , birthdays , he asked her to sing ballads with her daughter Esther at the piano. That made him very happy.
Don Julio, as they called him, had a "hanging house" in Cuenca, built in the XV century that jutted out from the high rocky ledge of the Huécar river gorge, where he had his studio. A huge glazed balcony, hanging in the air and it was where D. Julio received his guests from the world of literature and painting and where they only talked about art.
When D. Julio was on a trip, Esther Gloria went there with the excuse of composing, to meet her lover, a painter who was a student of her father. That he climbed the weeping willows that bordered the house to enter through the window and love each other until dawn. The painter was as beautiful as an Adonis, he was married and had a son. But it was stronger the passion he felt for Danae, his princess from Greek mythology, and he decided to live that intense love that was the inspiration for his paintings, and that would become very famous. No one knew about their encounters and his crazy love. Only Elvira and Blanca, whom Esther Gloria frequently invited to Cuenca, to keep her father entertained and thus be able to see her lover. Blanca spent hours talking about literature with the Pinter , who was delighted with her presence. He said her long, slender legs reminded him of the dancer and actress Moira Shearer in Hans Christian Andersen's 1948 British film "The Red Shoes."

XANA foresaw the future when the triptych of the Virgen del Socorrro began to draw the halo of light, and when her mother Elvira appeared again in her dreams. On this occasion she told him to pay close attention to the number 8, that she would have a lot to do with the life of her granddaughter.

October 28, 1968, Queen Victoria Eugenia returned to Spain after exile from the civil war to baptize her great-grandson Felipe II and bought her favorite candies in the famous 1915 store, "La Violeta" . That same day coincided that XANA and the Colonel would also go. Elvira and Angel were getting married! They had just arrived from Valencia, with their daughter Carmina, her husband and their children, and they were in charge of collecting kilos of violet flower candies to border each floor of the immense cake of white cream and toasted yolk that Elvira would cut with his father’s sword.
XANA very politely approached the Queen and thanked her personally for the Medal of Honor received in her name to his father in 1919, for the rescue of the shipwrecks of the S. Roque.

Carmina's children brought “ Las Arras “ , and they arrived very late to church. A custom that was celebrated in Spain since the Middle Ages and that without them the marriage was not valid. Everyone was already in the church, including the bride, eagerly awaiting his arrival. “Las arras “ are 13 coins, 12 gold and one platinum, formerly bronze. And representing the 12 months of the year and one of lesser value, to know how to face difficulties in life together. After exchanging the rings, the priest blesses them and the groom hands them to the bride who receives them with both open hands and says; —“I receive them” It means a guarantee of prosperity and goods in marriage. It even symbolized in the past, the payment made by the groom's family to the bride for arriving a virgin at marriage.

Doña Emilia Torrijos would lead her son to the altar. She had porcelain-white skin and dark blonde hair that flowed in natural waves from his forehead and hung down to her waist. With beautiful sky-blue eyes and a temper of arms to take. She got pregnant with Angel at the end of the war in 1939 and she could never expect it, she was 41 years old and at that time it was very late. It was from God that on the 4th of July, an important day, Angel was born and that he was a very handsome and intelligent son like her. The groom's father, Don Isidoro Barco, was like the Pinocchio character, Geppetto. He always surrounded by wood, calm and a very good person.
The Colonel, on his days off, kept taking off his uniform so they wouldn't recognize him and thus help the poor. That he worked with Franco does not mean that he had to think like him.
He proudly walked down the long corridor to the sound of the music in arm with the Voice of Orange, with his green jacket increasingly full of medals, the last one, La Cruz Laureada de San Fernando.
At the end of the celebration, XANA warned Elvira; —Daughter, as your grandmother predicted, you will have three children, but the second pregnancy will be complicated. And I tell you the same thing that my mother told me. That God would not want anything bad for you, if it were not to do good. You have to be very strong, you will lose two twin girls like I lost your twin brother, but then you will have the girl that your grandmother XANA told me about and it will be a whirlwind of colors with the essence of the two together.

The following year her first child, Ismael, was born. A blond, strong and healthy baby. Elvira was in Valencia as always, spending the summer at the beach house with her parents. Living in front of the sea for XANA was essential.
She returned to Madrid with his one-month-old baby and in the same quarantine she became pregnant with twins. She lost them late in her pregnancy, so it was twice as painful...
Without having planned it, she went alone to Valencia to be near her mother, but the plane had many and very strong turbulence for an hour and a half. The pilot commander had to calm the passengers on more than one occasion and the oxygen masks popped off so abruptly that they feared the worst. Upon landing, Elvira already knew that something was wrong. That night she heard the voice in her dreams of her grandmother who told her; —Don't let grief take over you, very soon you will get pregnant by a Star… she didn't give her time to think too much, because she immediately got pregnant.
The baby was already 8 and a half months old and how every summer they went to the beach with their parents. As soon as she arrived, she went to visit the family's gynecologist. That he had already attended the birth of 17 grandchildren of XANA and the Colonel, and all in a row. This time the gynecologist was going on vacation, and Elvira preferred that he cause her labor, but that he be the one to attend to her.
That night was a full moon and Elvira did the same ritual that the marroquí women taught XANA, to have a painless birth and it worked. On the 28th of 8 at 8 in the afternoon Sara was born. The number eight is already beginning to appear in her life. Sara's arrival was the refuge that Elvira needed after such a significant loss and that only a mother can understand. Indeed, Sara was worth the two angels who would go up to heaven. - Look Angel! We have had a star! She is beautiful! Elvira shouted… after 15 months pregnant, she couldn't believe that she had finally given birth. Aunt Blanca had been a fan of Lacoste ever since she lived in Paris for a while and brought her a basket from that firm full of dresses, booties and colognes, which occupied her entire room. From that day on, she badly got used to Princess Sara with the marks.

Returning to the beach house, everyone greeted Sara with great emotion, especially another new member of the family, Choco junior. Angel had given Elvira another German shepherd to take care of Sara like the first Choco did with her.
A few days later they returned to Madrid, Angel began to record an album for the famous Raphael the singer and he spent his days and nights at the studio Hispavox. Choco junior did not let anyone near Sara's crib and told Elvira when she had to breastfeed her.

On the day of the baptism, Sara's godmother, Esther Gloria, asked Elvira to please give her her name, which would make her and D. Julio very excited, so they decided to name her both, Sara Esther.
Esther Gloria composed a lullaby for her goddaughter that spoke of goblins, nymphs, white fairies, and that won several prizes. Elvira sang it to her babies every night for years.
Three years passed until Elvira became pregnant again with her last child, a beautiful boy they named Daniel... The delivery was going great, but at the last moment a medical emergency put Elvira's life in danger. They had to operate urgently. Angel was in charge of signing the consent for a tubal ligation or she could die. Elvira would never have consented, but her husband wanted to continue enjoying life by her side and signed. When Elvira woke up and heard the news, she got angry with Angel, but she immediately reconsidered and told XANA; —How did your mother know the future of her granddaughter, that is, me? Of course…it was the only way, to have surgery so that I couldn't have more children, and that the predicted one would be fulfilled.
Elvira gave birth to her three children in the summer, on the beach and next to her parents.

It was the hippie era, and Elvira took to dressing Sara Esther in long flowered skirts and blouses that she herself designed and sewed with another Singer who was one of the wedding gifts. Physically, she was as her great-great-grandmother had predicted, with long, curly gold hair, petite, and a perfect, stylized body like the real XANAS. Sara Esther, who was already 4 years old, loved her look and there was no way she could wear pants like her 5-year-old brother, who was so handsome and sporty that he caught people's attention, especially for his curly gold hair. Sara Esther spent the whole day singing, dancing, acting and doing sports gymnastics that she saw on TV and her elasticity was out of the ordinary.
In Valencia, XANA's Virgen del Socorro was already beginning to show her halo, she had to be very careful because something was going to happen.

At the Corpus Christi school, very close to the Hispavox studios, the nuns were preparing Snow White for the year-end show. Sara Esther was very excited about the cast of the characters. Sara Esther was beautiful, but Snow White was a brunette with short hair. So she was given the role of one of the little birds. Sara Esther came home crying telling her mother that she couldn't just play a little bird, that she was either playing Snow White or that she couldn't act in the role. And she refused to go to school. The nuns had to go to Elvira's house to convince Sara Esther. They told her that the only role that had more prominence than Snow White herself, was that of narrator of the story. But she said that she had to memorize the entire script and that was very difficult and would have to be done by a student in two more advanced courses. Sara Esther told them that she would be the narrator and that she would study it and her mother would prepare it for her, that she was the best actress in the world. Neither the nuns nor Elvira believed what they were hearing. A week later, Sara Esther knew the whole script and was already designing the costume with which she would go on stage and which could not miss a large apron where she would keep all the candies that the public threw every time the curtain closed.
She also staged the choreography of the little birds and the seven woman dwarfs, because it was a female school. The day of the show, Sara Esther had a spectacular success, she improvised and without being in the script, she decided to sing a cappella, the lullaby that her godmother had composed for her and that she knew by heart to listen to it every night, to put to sleep Snow White . The father of a student, a well-known film director, offered her a leading role in her next film.

But Sara Esther soon got very sick with tonsillitis and they had to take her to the hospital from the emergency room. What should have been a simple and quick operation turned into a river of blood due to not cauterizing the blood vessels properly when making the small cuts and she lost so much blood that she was admitted in a very serious condition in the intensive care unit. Parents couldn't stay there.
That same morning, on November 8, the phone rang. It was XANA; —Elvira, tell Angel to take you to the hospital urgently because your daughter is dying. But Elvira told her that if something had happened and her daughter was getting worse, the hospital would have called her by now.
Elvira immediately remembered the story she grew up with about XANA's mission to save her daughter's life and she rushed to the hospital. When she arrived, Elvira asked to enter the UVI but they did not let her. She quickly went into a room, put on a white coat and pretended to be a doctor. When she entered it was like watching a horror movie, her daughter was unplugged from the oxygen machine, with the tube where the medication came in ripped out and crying in pain because a nurse who was totally crazy, untangled her hair so long and curly, with a mini comb of a doll. That nurse was fired and admitted to a psychiatric facility after investigating several cases of death from similar causes.
XANA saved the life of her granddaughter as her mother predicted.

On November 20, 1975, the President of the Government Carlos Arias Navarro, announced; — “Spaniards, Franco is dead”. The dictator Francisco Franco Bahamonde, during 40 years of dictatorship, left many enemies, but we must not forget that he also freed Spain from the world war, he left achievements such as the creation of Social Security, the creation of the retirement pension, dictated the 3 extra payments, sick leave, the Sunday and holiday rest law and Unemployment Insurance, among others.
The course of the history of Spain would change forever. King Emeritus Juan Carlos I assumes the Head of State…

Every weekend, Elvira took the Princess of Kapurthala, which is how they called her lately, to her godmother's house in Majadahonda. From La Piovera, where they lived, it was a long way, but it was very important that the princess, who was already 6 years old, was very well prepared.
It was her weekly art and culture class. Classical music was already playing from the terrace, the house was very large, a small museum with many antiques from the 8th century. Mansion furniture and unique books. Esther Gloria and Elvira, had a piano career. The princess rehearsed at the piano with her mother her emotional and difficult song, Alfonsina y el Mar, and that Elvira, every time she sang it, made everyone cry. Argentina was already beginning to get into her heart and the arrow pointed towards that country. Probably XANA was working in heaven. Classes on the grand piano were the princess's favourites. Paintings by Goya and other famous artists and colleagues to learn and admire. All the Spanish TV ballets were displayed on the big screen for after-dinner. Tchaikovsky could already be heard from one of the halls, it had its own area for ballet, with its barre and the giant golden cornucopias of mirrors… already representing from Greek mythology in the 5th century BC. C. to the horns of plenty and prosperity.

Travel and gastronomy were the themes that enlivened the very long meals, with all the starters and dishes to taste. Nana had been in the house all her life and she already knew how to cook all the exquisite Galician recipes that Esther Gloria had taught her. She was fascinated by eating and began to have problems with being overweight, since she did not see her lover, her life did not have the same meaning.
The dog Daysi, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who also sat down to eat at her own table, and who put the napkin in her paws so as not to get dirty, was her consolation.
The canaries sang to Mozart and in the greenhouse there was always something nice to do.
Tea was served on the terrace, it was like a fairy tale and Sara Esther waited impatiently for the time to enter the artist's studio and learn from the master. She was fascinated by her engravings of the underwater world and the history of the inner life of her famous "Peixes" that were already Gold Medal for Fine Arts. The engraving plate machine was bigger than the princess. Prieto was working at that time on a sublime engraving, in drypoint.
D. Julio was giving his goddaughter sheets of prints for her personal collection and Sara Esther who liked to use the French that Aunt Blanca taught her when she was a student at the Sorbonne in Paris. She told him; —Merci beaucoup monsieur Nespereira, one day I will exhibit your engravings myself.
The engravings that he painted in Cuba when he was Director of the School of Fine Arts in Havana, attracted Elvira's attention, which made her think of the past of her great-grandfather, the mysterious Asturian Cuban, Manuel Alonso, and it seemed that some message he wanted to pass on to her.
However, Esther Gloria did not like being reminded of her father's second wife, a Cuban writer who worked for the government and who was not allowed to leave the country, to marry her beloved Don Julio . They were afraid that she would tell everything that she saw on a daily basis. She had to get to Miami first and from there find the time to escape to Europe. After all the obstacles they had to overcome in order to be together, Esther Gloria, possessed by her jealousy, made her life miserable until she had to go back to Cuba.

Don Julio was the only one who called the princess of Kapurthala only Esther, which in Hebrew means Star. He explained to her that since Sara meant Princess and she was that already one of them , what he sees is a star. Esther returned to her house full of beauty in her soul, impregnated with art and her eyes shone curious looking for a new adventure...

Don't miss the next chapter! Chap.6

“ Sara Esther, the fourth and last generation of XANAS from the “Leré” family, at the age of 7, begins to train very hard in sports gymnastics, until something unexpected happens that will change her destiny… meanwhile, the famous Kreisler Galleries in Madrid and Minister Fraga Iribarne, give a Gala Dinner in honor of Prieto Nespererira, organized by his daughter at home…”

Unleash Your Inner Flamenca is dedicated to all the women of the world and it does not mean that you have to be flamenco or dedicate yourself to the world of dance. It is an expression, it is a way of facing the setbacks that life gives us and because flamenco has that attitude of: Here I am!

Unleashing my inner Flamenca has helped me in many very extreme situations in my life and, not only technically speaking as a flamenco professional, but in those times that I didn't have to be dancing, or teaching, or competing, or performing on stage. I’m talking about everyday life.

That is why you too can bring out your inner Flamenca.

A flamenca woman is confident, a flamenca woman is sure of herself, has gravitas, has bearing, has wisdom and knows how to be in command.

In other words, unleash your inner Flamenca and join me in this adventure in which we are going to have a great time! We know how it starts and we don't know how it ends, but it is sure to be one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life.

I didn't need to be famous to sleep in Hemingway's Presidential suite at the Gritti Palace in Venice for all my birthdays.

Have a Bellini while I wait for the gondola that will take me to the private Film Festival party on the yacht of my colleague, who was a Versace collaborator, or dine on the famous terrace of the Hotel Danieli.

It is also true that if I had slept with all my stalkers, I would now be more famous than Sara Baras. BUT! no matter how much I took a shower, the smell of vomit would not go away from my body and the phrase of: “how did I get it” would be the soundtrack of my life, which would turn my insides with each applause.

Nor did I need to be famous to have a bodyguard escort me to the door of the plane, in the direction of the American Embassy in Beirut or go in a Limousine and drink the best champagne.

“Todo lo he conseguido con pasión, seguridad en mi misma , esfuerzo y dedicación”.

Proving first to myself and then to the whole world that I don't need to sell myself to a man to succeed in my career. And that I bring out the inner Flamenca every time they cross my path.

Do not allow any man to command you or demand what you have to do.

Lucha por lo que quieras, viste como quieras, maquíllate como quieras , estudia lo que quieras y júntate con quien quieras.

The first time a man lays his hand on you, it will be his fault, but the second time it will be your fault for putting up with the first time.

And if you feel trapped and you are afraid to stand up to your reality, look for a way as if it were the last day of your life to give a signal at the pharmacy, at the market, to a neighbor you come across, to anyone who can hear this number: 016! and it will be the first step to your salvation, to your new life, surely filled with all the good things you long for and where no one will let you back down. You will immediately be protected by the society that will protect and help you without conditions. And I, Esther Ponce, am already thinking of you.

UNLEASH YOUR INNER FLAMENCA #SACALAFLAMENCA

I have suffered more than 10 workplace harassments from very famous people in the world of show business, and knowing what I now know, I would have denounced it.

A I’m going to tell you how I brought out the flamenco that I have in extreme situations and that I hope and serve to help some woman to do the same as me.

For now I'm only going to use nicknames.

“If I had slept with all my stalkers, I would now be more famous than Sara Baras. "

With my testimony and my own experience, living in different countries of the world and interacting with all kinds of social classes, race, culture and religion, I want to turn around the drama that women experience in the world.
That they are not alone... that they unleash their inner flamenca A strong and self-confident woman, the director of their own life. That she clings to the ground with temperance and ready to scratch at any moment if necessary and fight life with the best smile...

I have experiences and anecdotes to tell all women; the neighborhood ones, the rich ones , the conflictive ones, the addicted ones, etc. And always with my motto that to run away from any situation, the best thing is to practice athletics! … My uncle used to called me Dance Athlete, he said; As long as you have strong legs and a strong heart, you can fly! .

Esther Ponce's experimental Flamenco is ready for the Valencian Director of Tourism to meet

It is very gratifying to have an idea like the experimental Flamenco in Valencia, carry it out and have managed to attract more than 20 foreign clients to Valencia in a short time and without marketing, who have passed through the Flamenco Art Center, and who have not only They learned a lot if not they have returned to their country with a better concept of Valencia.

His experience and approach to flamenco led by Esther Ponce will make you return without hesitation to the city of Turia.

Esther Ponce not only surrounds them with her passion and charisma from the first moment, her professionalism and a very long journey through different countries of the world where she has lived for long periods, she makes them fall in love.

You just have to read the dedications of all the foreigners who write in their precious notebook created for them and that are already adding more and more.

«They also buy semi-professional shoes and a skirt to study with me.» That’s already the best! –
~ Esther Ponce

The foreigner is used to teaching flamenco very quickly and without discipline, anything goes, any shoe, any skirt, hanging out even parodying and even ridiculing flamenco.

With me if they want to study two private hours which is the minimum, they are given the option of buying or renting the shoes and none of them have thought twice about it to this day.

«Being a polyglot, doors just open up to me» –

Definitely the Experimental Flamenco of Esther Ponce has an Angel!

From England, without a doubt the most special Experimental Flamenco we have had at the Flamenco Art Center in these two and a half years.

The Esther Ponce Stylized Flamenco Art Center has been open for two and a half years. El Ángel Every August 28, for Esther’s birthday, a new foreign student gives her a gift and the flamenco toast intensifies.

«The students do not want to miss the opportunity to study with me. When they start to study my technique they are hooked at the first second. Those who play sports and take care of themselves immediately identify with my stretching and feel safer for the rest of the class and those who don’t appreciate it and will surely start practicing it and taking care of themselves forever »
~ Esther Ponce

This year Esther thought that her Angel would be very busy due to the current pandemic situation and also that it would be a coincidence that another year happened.

But to Esther’s surprise it was like that and without doubt the most special flamenco toast for England.

«Discipline is my hallmark and not even the Covid has stopped us» «I have never doubted it and I will only teach classes with a mask»
~ Esther Ponce

After the experience of teaching classes with a mask? A private flamenco class for two hours without stopping, does Esther remember that when she and the student went out into the street they breathed for two seconds as if there were no tomorrow?According to Esther’s recent experience, with the mask you cannot see the total expression of the student, but the eyes also speak and flamenco is also expressed with the body.

With all the safety measures, the student disinfected her shoes, put hydroalcoholic gel on her hands, a temperature control was performed with a non-contact forehead thermometer and the student did not remove her mask during the two hours, only in the changing room that she only used to drink water.

“Now I can present my Experimental Flamenco to the director of Tourism of Valencia and let him roll with the little ham :)”

~ Esther Ponce
